Charlie*Adler - Our World Is Far More Chaotic Than We Dreamed
Dutch mathcore is not yet abundant in our country yet, but there are some that are showing that they’ve got the skills. Charlie*Adler is definitely one of those I can appreciate, and now lies their first official release before me. I have reviewed their demo some time ago, os I was very curious to see how they have evolved.
They managed to maintain their style in the vein of bands like Converge, Burnt By The Sun and The Dillinger Escape Plan and made it sound just a bit more complicated and chaotic than the tracks on the demo. Those tracks are also present on this disc in a re-recorded version, to meet with the demands of fans who wanted the tracks but can’t get them anymore since the demo is out of print.
Although I have a rough mix of the album, it takes me about three listening sessions to be able to follow what is going on. Although they might take it to the edge of chaos here and there. The drums impress me now even more than on the demo, something I did expect after seeing them the last couple of times. This guy knows his rhythms, and so do the guitarists. Great stuff indeed, but I expect that their material will only getter with time, like good wine.
Vocally the album sounds very varying and intense, with death grunts, crust squeals and razor screams. Fortunately the emo stuff I heard him do at shows lately doesn’t sound as horrible as it did then. In fact I don’t mind at all, way to go Tammi! :p
This band does have some members in it’s ranks that are active in other (relative) successful metal acts such as you can see in the line-up, so I think it’s really good that they still find time to work on this project. I can only hope that they keep doing it for as long as possible, to help grow the mathcore scene.
